Help

Help with Aurator, step by step.

Everything you need to install Aurator, use your free week, buy and move your key. If your question is not here, write to hello@tryaurator.app and we will help.

Install Aurator

  1. 1Open the disk image you downloaded. A window opens with Aurator on the left and your Applications folder on the right.
  2. 2Drag Aurator onto the Applications folder.
  3. 3Open Aurator from your Applications folder. Its welcome window walks you through the rest.
If you open Aurator straight from the disk image, it offers to move itself to your Applications folder. Please let it, so it can update itself and start at login.

The microphone and Accessibility

Aurator needs two permissions to dictate, and the welcome window asks for both.
The microphone is how Aurator hears you. If you said no, open System Settings, Privacy and Security, Microphone and switch on Aurator.
Accessibility is how Aurator puts your words at the cursor, and how it keeps out of password fields. If you said no, open System Settings, Privacy and Security, Accessibility and switch on Aurator.
After an update, macOS sometimes stops trusting the new version. If Aurator says it needs Accessibility again, switch Aurator off and on again in that list. If that does not help, remove it with the minus button and add it back.
Other permissions, such as your computer's sound for notes, are asked for only the first time you use the feature that needs them. Settings, App, Permissions shows them all in one place.

The free week

Your free week starts the first time you open Aurator. It lasts 7 days, every feature is open to you, and you need no card and no account. Settings, Licence shows how many days are left.
When the week ends, nothing is charged. Aurator stops dictating until you add a key, and your history, your dictionary and your voice guide stay on your Mac, so you carry on where you left off.

Buy and enter your key

Choose a plan under Pricing on this site, or in Aurator in Settings, Licence. You pay once, by card, through Stripe, in US dollars. It is not a subscription.
Your key appears on the page as soon as the payment goes through, and it comes by email too. It starts with AURA.
  1. 1On your Mac, click Activate in Aurator on that page. It opens Aurator with the key filled in.
  2. 2Aurator asks you to confirm. Please click Activate, since pressing Return chooses Cancel.
  3. 3Or copy the key, open Aurator, go to Settings, Licence, paste it in Enter licence key, and click Activate.
Activating needs the internet once. After that Aurator checks your key about once a day, and it keeps working offline in between.

I lost my key

Go to tryaurator.app/recover and enter the email you paid with. Your key goes back to that inbox and never anywhere else. Please check your spam folder too.
It sends at most once every half hour, and 4 times a day, to one address. Your key is also in the email we sent after you paid, Your Aurator licence key.

Move to a new Mac, and how many Macs you can use

  • One Mac, US$29 once, works on one Mac.
  • Three Macs, US$49 once, works on up to three Macs.
  • Every Mac, US$69 once, works on every Mac signed in to your Apple account.
  1. 1On the old Mac, go to Settings, Licence, and click Deactivate this Mac. That frees its place on your key.
  2. 2Install Aurator on the new Mac, go to Settings, Licence, paste your key and click Activate.
  3. 3To bring your history and settings, click Back up in Settings, Privacy and data on the old Mac, and Restore on the new one.
If the old Mac is lost or broken, just enter your key on the new Mac. When the key has no free Mac left, Aurator shows the Macs that hold it, and you can remove the old one there.
A key can change Macs 5 times in 30 days. If you need more than that, write to us and we will sort it out.
Need more Macs later? Upgrade and pay only the difference. Your key stays the same.

The Every Mac plan and iCloud

The Every Mac plan covers every Mac signed in to your Apple account, now and later. Your Mac must be signed in to iCloud when you activate, and the first time can take up to a minute.
When you activate, Aurator asks iCloud for a private id for your Apple account. It is the same on each of your Macs and carries no name and no email, so Aurator never sees your Apple ID, and Aurator hashes it before it reaches our server.
Each person in a family has their own Apple account, so the plan covers one person's Macs. Several user accounts on one Mac count as one Mac. If you change Apple account, write to us and we will move the key.

Refunds

If Aurator is not right for you, write to hello@tryaurator.app within 30 days of paying and we refund you in full. No reason is needed. The purchase and each upgrade have their own 30 days.
A refunded purchase switches its key off. The licence leaves your Macs once two daily checks, a day apart, find the key switched off.
The full terms are on the terms of sale page.

What Aurator needs

Needs macOS 26 or later. Made for Apple silicon. Intel Macs, please try the free week first.
It has not been tested on macOS 27 yet, so on macOS 27, please use the free week to check it first.
Write for me, voice editing, the rewrite styles and building your voice guide on the Mac need Apple Intelligence. Without it, they work with Cloud and your own Anthropic key.

Privacy, in short

By default your voice and your words stay on your Mac. Speech to text, cleanup and the coach all run there, and there is no account.
Cloud is off until you turn it on, and then it uses your own Deepgram and Anthropic keys. Your voice goes to them, never to us.
Aurator goes online to check for updates, and about once a day to check your licence. Neither carries your voice or your words.
Every detail is on the privacy page.
