An example of Aurator at work. You say, um I think we should uh move the meeting to Thursday and um send everyone the new link. Aurator pastes, I think we should move the meeting to Thursday and send everyone the new link. Then it shows, 3 fillers cut, 3 words tighter. Next you hold your edit key and say, Email to Sam, the meeting moved to Thursday, ask him to bring the report. Aurator writes the whole email and shows you the draft first. You press Return and it goes in.

Works in every app that has a text field.

How it works

Talk where you type. In every app on your Mac.

Mail, Slack, Notes, Cursor, the ChatGPT box. Wherever your cursor is, hold Right Option, say it, let go, and clean text is there.

⌥

01

Hold a key and talk.

Right Option by default, or any key you choose. Hold it to talk, or tap it to start and tap again to stop.

um Let’s ship it on Friday.

02

Let go. It pastes.

Your words land in the app you are in, cleaned up, a moment after you release the key. Ums and uhs gone, punctuation in, your words kept.

DictionaryHistoryCoachVoice

03

It learns you.

Every dictation goes into your History and your coach, and names that keep coming up are suggested for your dictionary. It also gives Aurator more to learn your voice from when you build your voice guide. All of it is kept on your Mac, in one folder you can back up or delete.

The coach

The dictation app that coaches you.

A word count tells you how much you said. The coach tells you how you said it, and trains you to say it better with short spoken lessons. It reads only your own dictations, and your speech is measured on your Mac.

  • 1

Six things it can honestly measure.

Pace, fluency, directness, concision, clarity and vocabulary. Each gets a number out of 100 from the words you said, and the coach points to the part that would lift your Aura Score the most.

  • 2

    Lessons you answer out loud.

Eighteen short lessons, three for each part. The coach teaches one technique, asks a question, and you answer by speaking. Your answer is measured against the lesson’s goal with the same measures your score uses.

  • 3

    See why, then try again.

When an answer misses the goal, the coach shows what happened and a better version of what you said, then asks a new question until you reach it. Lesson answers never count in your Aura Score, so you can see what has changed in your everyday dictations since your first lesson.

The score is honest about what it knows. Short commands never raise it. Only dictations of 25 words or more count, and the score stays capped until there is enough of your speech to trust it. There are seven levels, from Hesitant Speaker to Master Communicator.

How each score is worked out
Pace
Spoken words divided by speaking time. 100 at 150 words a minute, 1 point off for every 2.5 words a minute away from it, and faster outside 120 to 180.
Fluency
100, less 10 for every filler and 6 for every repeated word, per 100 words spoken.
Directness
100, less 8 for every hedging word and 10 for every wind up phrase, per 100 words spoken.
Concision
100, less 2 for every percent of your words cleanup trimmed, and 2.5 for every word your sentences average above 16.
Clarity
100, less 1.6 for every percent of sentences over 26 words, and 6 for every repeated word per 100 words spoken.
Vocabulary
55 when 60 percent of each run of 50 words are different words, and 2 points more or less for every percent above or below.

My Voice

Sarah’s voicebuilt from 112 dictations

IN SHORT

  • Warm and direct, gets to the point in the first line.
  • Says please and thank you, even in a quick message.
  • Builds a request step by step, then asks to confirm.

WRITE FOR ME

“Email to Sam, the meeting moved to Thursday, ask him to bring the report.”

Hi Sam, I hope you are well.

Our meeting has moved to Thursday. Could you please bring the report with you?

Thank you so much,
Sarah

Example. Yours is built from your own dictations.

Your voice

It learns to write like you, everywhere you write.

Tell it what you need and it writes the whole thing. Once you have built your voice guide, from about 30 longer dictations, it writes in your voice. Then take that voice with you into Claude, ChatGPT and any AI tool.

  • 1

    Write for me.

Hold the edit key and say what you need. An email to Sam, the meeting moved to Thursday, please bring the report. Aurator writes the whole email and shows you the draft. Press Return and it goes in.

  • 2

Your voice, in Claude and ChatGPT.

Aurator builds a guide to how you speak and write from about 30 of your longer dictations. It learns only from words you spoke, never from text AI wrote. Download it as a skill for Claude, or paste it into ChatGPT, and they write like you.

  • 3

Private details stay out of it.

Every sentence of your guide is checked as soon as it is written. Any that holds an email address, a phone number, a link, an amount of money, a health detail or a name you said is taken out, and Aurator shows you what it removed.

  • 4

Edit by voice, and skills you call by name.

Select any text and say what to change, make this more formal, shorten it, put it in Spanish. Or start with a skill, Formal, Friendly, Short and direct, Encouraging, Persuasive, your own, or one you import from Claude, and Aurator writes it that way. You see every new version first.

Choose your edit key once, in the first-run guide or in Settings. With Cloud on, writing and editing use Claude with your own key. With it off, they run on your Mac with Apple’s own model, which is simpler and needs Apple Intelligence, on a Mac with Apple silicon.

Privacy

Private by default.

Speech to text, cleanup and the coach run on your Mac. No account, and once the speech model for your language has downloaded, dictation works on a plane. Want more? Turn on Cloud with your own Deepgram and Claude keys. Your voice goes to them, never to us, and Aurator never uses your words to train a model. Password fields are never listened to.

Stays on your Mac.
Speech to text, cleanup, the coach, your History and recordings, your dictionary and file transcription, which stays on your Mac even with Cloud on.
Only if you turn on Cloud, with your own keys.
Your audio and dictionary words go to Deepgram. Text goes to Claude for rewrites, voice edits, Write for me and building your voice guide.
Goes to us.
A licence check about once a day, with your key and a few details about your Mac, each one listed on the privacy page. Never your voice or your words.

In the box

It hears your names. And writes your way.

  • Your dictionary learns your names.

Add a name once and Aurator hears it right, and fixes it when it is misheard. It also notices names that keep coming up and suggests them. A real word is never changed into a name.

  • A style for each app.

Polished for Mail, plain for Slack. Each app can have its own style, its own dictation language, Spanish in WhatsApp for example, and on your Mac or Cloud. Set it once.

  • History with audio.

Every dictation is kept with its recording. Play it back at 1.5 or 2 times the speed, search it, star your favourites or export them to Markdown. Recordings are kept 30 days unless you choose 7 or 90 days, or until you delete them.

  • Drafts wait for you.

A rewrite style, a voice edit or Write for me shows its draft first, next to what it came from, and nothing goes in until you press Return. Aurator also refuses a draft that drops a “not”, moves your numbers around or adds a date you never gave, and text you select is only ever edited, never obeyed.

  • Pastes only where you started.

Your words go into the field you were in when you started talking. If something else is in front when they are ready, they are copied instead and a notice says so. Password fields are never listened to.

  • One honest line after each paste.

It says how many fillers cleanup cut and how many words shorter your text came out, so you see your habits while you work.

Also in the box.

  • The Dashboard, with your words, speaking time and words a minute, and a 120-day chart of the days you dictated.
  • Topics, what you talk about, tagged on your Mac with Apple Intelligence.
  • Ten languages today, the ones Apple’s speech model supports on your Mac. English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin and Cantonese, in about thirty regional versions. Automatic switches between your two main languages.
  • Voice commands in English, such as “new paragraph”, “scratch that” and “cap that”.
  • Cleanup styles. Standard keeps your words, Concise, Polished email and Bullet points rewrite them, or write your own.
  • Audio and video file transcription, which always stays on your Mac, even with Cloud on.
  • Backup to a single zip, to keep a copy or to move everything to a new Mac.
  • Cloud by choice. Deepgram shows your words live and Claude does the writing, with your own keys in your Mac’s Keychain.
  • Music and podcasts pause while you talk, wherever macOS lets Aurator pause them.

Questions

Asked and answered.

Is it a subscription, or a one-time purchase?

One payment, not a subscription. Seven days free, then you pay once, in US dollars. US$29 for one Mac, US$49 for three Macs, or US$69 for every Mac signed in to your Apple account. Every plan includes every update.

How is it different from the dictation built into macOS?

The Mac's own dictation types what you say. Aurator also cleans it up. You hold a key you choose and let go to paste, the ums and uhs come out, and your dictionary spells your names your way. Each app can have its own style. It can rewrite, edit by voice or write a whole message, and it shows you any AI draft first. It keeps your History with audio, and it coaches you from your own words. Try both side by side in the free week.

Does it send my voice anywhere?

Not unless you turn it on. By default speech to text, cleanup and coaching all run on your Mac. Aurator goes online to check for updates, and about once a day to check your licence with our server, and neither carries your voice or your words. If you turn on Cloud in Settings, Deepgram receives your audio and your dictionary words while you dictate, and Claude receives text for the rewrite styles, voice editing, Write for me and building your voice, with keys from your own accounts. The privacy page lists exactly what each one receives. None of it is ever sent to us, and Aurator never uses your words to train a model.

What happens when the free week ends?

Nothing is charged, because the free week never asks for a card. Aurator stops dictating, editing and writing for you, and file transcription, the coach's lessons, and building or sharing your voice guide wait for a licence key. Your history, your dictionary and your voice guide stay on your Mac, and the Coach pages stay readable. Add a key when you are ready and you carry on where you left off.

What if it is not for me?

Write to hello@tryaurator.app within 30 days of paying and we refund you in full, no questions. A refunded purchase switches its key off, and a refunded upgrade moves the key back to its earlier plan. The terms of sale at tryaurator.app/terms have the details.

Which Macs does it run on?

Aurator needs macOS 26 or later. Made for Apple silicon. Intel Macs, please try the free week first. It has not been tested on macOS 27 yet, so on macOS 27, please use the free week to check it before you buy too. Write for me, voice editing, the rewrite styles and building your voice on the Mac need Apple Intelligence. Without it, those four work only with Cloud and your own Anthropic key.

Does it work offline?

Yes, on a Mac with Apple silicon. With Cloud off, Aurator uses Apple’s speech engine on your Mac, so dictation, cleanup and the coach work with no internet once the speech model for your language has downloaded. Aurator goes online to check for updates, and about once a day to check your licence, and it keeps working offline for up to 60 days between checks.

Does it work in every app?

It pastes into any app with a text field, the prompt box of ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor included, and only into the field you were in when the dictation started. If you moved somewhere else before the text was ready, it is copied instead and a notice tells you. In an app that hides its fields from macOS, Aurator checks only that you are still in that app. Password fields are never listened to, and a dictation never presses Return for you in a chat or a terminal. For the few apps that ignore paste, there is a type-it-out mode that types the words instead.

Does Write for me need the cloud?

Not on a Mac with Apple Intelligence. With Cloud off, Apple's model on your Mac writes it, which is simpler. With Cloud on and your own Anthropic key, Claude writes it, and it writes better. On a Mac without Apple Intelligence, Write for me needs Cloud and an Anthropic key. Once you have built your voice guide, both use it.

What is the voice skill?

A guide to how you speak and write, built by Aurator from your own dictations, your tone, your phrases, how you open and close. Download it as a skill for Claude, or copy it into ChatGPT or any tool that takes instructions, and they write like you. It learns only from the words you actually spoke, never from text that Write for me or a rewrite produced. Each sentence of the guide is checked as it is written, and any that holds an email address, a phone number, a link, an amount of money, a health detail or a name you said is taken out. It needs about 30 longer dictations, and you can update it whenever you like.

Is there a Windows version?

Not yet, Aurator is Mac only today. If you would like it on Windows, join the Windows waitlist at tryaurator.app/windows. If we make a Windows version, we will email you when it is ready.

Join the Windows waitlist

More questions, about keys, recordings and setup
Can it learn the names I use?

Yes. Add them to your dictionary once. Aurator also suggests names and terms that keep coming up in your dictations, so you can add them with one click.

What does the cloud cost?

Nothing from us. Cloud is optional and you bring your own keys, so Deepgram and Anthropic bill you directly. Deepgram charges by the minute of speech, and new accounts start with free credit. Anthropic charges by the amount of text, so a rewrite or a voice edit costs very little, and building your voice guide, which reads many dictations at once, costs the most. A few dollars of credit on an Anthropic account goes a long way.

What are skills?

Named ways of writing, such as Formal, Short and direct, or Encouraging, and you can make your own or import a skill file from Claude. Say the skill's name at the start of a Write for me request or a voice edit, and Aurator writes that way, in your voice once you have built your voice guide.

Why does it ask for the microphone and Accessibility?

The microphone is how it hears you. Accessibility is how macOS lets an app place the finished text at your cursor in the app you are using. Aurator also uses it to check the field in front while you dictate, so it does not listen in a password field, and it does not paste into a different field from the one you started in wherever the app lets macOS see its fields.

What if a dictation goes wrong?

Press Escape to cancel a tapped recording, or a dictation while it is being worked on. For a dictation, the recording is kept, so Try Last Recording Again in the menu bar can run it once more. If a dictation fails, the pill says why and keeps the recording for another try. One dictation can run for up to 10 minutes. At the limit it stops, and your text is copied, ready to paste with Command V.

What happens to my recordings?

They stay in one folder on your Mac, next to your transcripts. A new install keeps each one for 30 days. You can choose a shorter or longer time, switch recording off, delete any single one, or delete all of them and see exactly how much space you got back. The coach does not need them.

Can I add more Macs later?

Yes. Upgrade in Aurator from Settings, then Licence, or at tryaurator.app/upgrade, and pay only the difference between the plans. Your key stays the same.

How does the every Mac plan know which Macs are mine?

When you activate the key, Aurator asks iCloud for a private id for your Apple account. Apple gives the same id on every Mac signed in to that account, and it carries no name or email, so Aurator never sees your Apple ID. Aurator hashes the id before it sends it to our server, and only asks for it for keys on the every Mac plan. Each person in a family has their own Apple account, so the plan covers one person's Macs.

I lost my licence key.

Go to tryaurator.app/recover, enter the email you paid with, and the key is sent back to that inbox. It is never shown to anyone else.

Who makes Aurator?

Aurator is made by ndmr.au, one independent developer in Queensland, Australia, who uses it every day. It is sold through a small business, Digital Products by ndmrau, which is the name you see at checkout. Every email to hello@tryaurator.app reaches the person who builds Aurator.
